Penultimate day in Portugal – tomorrow, at the end of the day, I cross the border to Galicia. So today was a short hop of just some 12 miles. Or so I thought.

A Ponte at Ponte de Lima

The walk was fairly flat at first but soon changed into an uphill climb. Very beautiful with waterfalls as per the below.

Rushing water

It rained quite a bit but the news that Ed Milliband had completely failed in his attempt to save the NHS / invest in Education / help hard-working families / invest in more state non-jobs / kill me with extra taxes etc etc meant that I was in a great mood all day today. Got to the top of the mountain and was still grinning.

At the top, at last

Ended up at a lovely guesthouse; Ana greeted us with “this is your house in Portugal” and having polished off a bottle of very acceptable white wine (6€) I can only agree. Dinner here involves a local restaurant owner coming to pick you up in his car, feeding you and then dropping you back. A very civilised arrangement and another big tick in the box for the Camino Portugues.
