And it’s off to the physio. Since starting training in January I’ve lost a little weight and have generally improved my fitness level. The process has been greatly helped by having the rowing machine installed upstairs in front of the TV set. So I have done a few half-marathons watching old episodes of Rome, Life on Mars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (we have a limited selection of DVDs).
Dara and Creagh have both occasionally popped their heads around the door, apparently to say that I’m overdoing it but I have not heard them say anything other than that “wah wah wah” white noise that I hear when I don’t want to hear anything more concrete.
A couple of weeks ago my left knee started to twinge so, being ultra-careful, I nipped down to the GP (only 8 days wait for an appointment – pretty good). As well as getting a referral to a surgeon, he sent me to a physio in Bicester. I had actually seen this lady about 20 years ago when I ruptured a back disc and had been impressed with her then. She took about five minutes to tell me that I had damaged a ligament in my left knee due to overdoing it on the rowing machine. I have got some exercises to do to loosen it up before setting off.
I blame Dara and Creagh for not warning me that I was overdoing it on the rowing machine in a way that I didn’t just ignore.
