Apologies for the absence of posts. It is however rather difficult to post without a) a mobile signal b) wifi or c) reliable carrier pigeons

It is rare in this world to be truly cut-off but that has been the case for the last 24 hours and is likely to be the same for the next few days; this is glorious countryside but really really remote – yesterday I walked 20k without passing any human habitation…given that it is impossible to walk more than 100 metres in England without passing either a coffee shop or an exciting new housing development the sense of isolation is amazing.

Occasionally however one comes across some interesting human structures – like this mirador that gives a view over a dam on the river Salime – Nice idea, shame about the rusted supports and the crumbling concrete….

On the brightside however the food in the mountains is designed for peregrinos! Dinner yesterday consisting of a beer, a half-bottle of wine, more food than would be possible to eat in a couple of days, a shot or two of grappa – £10….
