I’ve booked into a hotel a mere 23k ahead, the sun is shining, the hotel – St Martins, opposite that fantastic church – was great and my legs still seem to be working. What more could I want. Someone has shoved what looks like a tennis ball into my left ankle so I am going to take it easy today. I even managed to do my laundry last night. I used to think of clothes as clean or dirty. I realise now that that is an absurd over-simplification. The categories are actually:
– clean and in a bag with other clean clothes. The pinnacle of cleanliness;
– clean but shoved in a bag with dirty clothes so probably a bit contaminated;
– worn once but no visible signs of dirt such as mud-splatters so ok for a second round;
– worn once but really obviously filthy – ok in a desperate situation;
– worn once or more times and so disgustingly dirty that I can’t bear putting them on again e.g. when my linen shirt was so drenched with sweat I could have refilled my water bottle from it (I didn’t you will be glad to hear).
Washing Central in Fromista
Yesterday’s trick was the provision of a dimplex heater in the room so I could dry everything. Just had to hang the clothes over the “risk of fire, do not cover” notice and everything dried quickly.
