After the long walks through the flat lands it was rather nice to have a small hill to climb out of Zafra, with some nice views back over the town.

Only a 17km day today so it was a gentle start, a gentle cup of coffee en route and then an earliest arrival at Villafranca de los Barros. Quite a sizeable town and stayed in a hotel next to a completely dried up river bed. As it was an early arrival, visited the Museo Historic Etnografico which is well worth a viewing.

I had spotted a place on tripadvisor for dinner – Meson Monterrey – which looked ok so headed up towards it, happy to stop if anything better appeared on the way. Nothing did appear so arrived at the restaurant to be greeted cheerfully and ushered into a completely empty room.

Thought this must be a mistake - what an unpopular restaurant I thought - but couldn't be bother to move. The food and wine was excellent. By the time of leaving though, at about 10:30 the place was packed, with small children running around. Note to self - don't judge a restaurant's popularity based on the numbers of people eating at Northern European dinner time….in Spain 10:30 pm is a reasonable time to arrive for food.
