Day 7 A Pobra to Monforte de Lemos

After yesterday’s route march, today was a very easy 15km saunter through a gentle landscape of farms, hamlets snd meadows.

The deck chair seemed to symbolise this warm rural laid back scene. It says “I’m going to sit here and enjoy the sun and the fact that this large bramble bush has grown around me is not going to force me to do anything energetic like move”.

Lunch was some cookies, apple and water in a little village on a bench outside someone’s house.  An elderly dog came wandering past and with a little bit of coaxing – he was very nervous – he came and shared lunch.

Monforte de Lemos makes a dramatic appearance thanks to a parador on top of a hill. When one gets to the top of said hill, it’s not so exciting – a smaller scale version of the parador in Santiago.  Nice enough but a bit “meh”.

So I'm back in the same town I was in last night and the party in honour of St Anthony was getting really wild.  The boy band with one girl had been replaced by a boy band with two girls. A bit different from London.  No “Me Too”, no “ban the grid girls” no “dress modestly” stuff here.

And of course the party had to end with spending a small fortune in fireworks.

I really like the way saints in Spain are a good reason for a party. There’s a lot to be said for the Catholics at times.
