So out of Andalucia and into Extremadura. But before leaving the south, there was a really well preserved castle overlooking El Real. On the other side of the provincial border there was a much less well-preserved castle but it still had four intact towers.

From El Real one just ambles along a rather nice track - Calle Jose Maria Pedrero - for a few miles. Eventually the path takes one to a motorway service station for lunch where the restaurant Complejo Leo would put any British service station to shame. Then it was time to cross the motorway and walk due north to Monasterio.
Monasterio was the end of this phase so I had one beer to celebrate and then went to the taxi rank to get a car back to Sevilla. No such joy. Eventually I found a nice barman at the Hotel Moya who got me another beer while he ordered a taxi for me. Then back to Sevilla in 1 hour.
A good start to the VdlP. I'm going to enjoy this one.
