Today was the day of getting back into Galicia. The day started with a climb of about 400m in 4 km which was surprisingly easy to the peak of A Canda.

This little pilgrim marked the spot of crossing out of Castille y Leon. I thought the marker was quite Celtic and in fact it was quite appropriate. For much of the day one walks through a rocky landscape with big stones left from some long ago glacier. It reminded me of the west of Ireland in its gaunt beauty.

After the bleak hillside, it was a pleasure to get to a bar - Bar ON - in Vilavella and rehydrate with beer. A couple of Norwegian peregrinas arrived and introduced themselves - one was a keen pilgrim, the other was doing the walk as a newbie after a personnel loss.

A Gudina is nothing to write home about - a string development along the busy road, it was a relief to check into a fairly soulless and cheap hotel and shut off the traffic.
