Day 33 Puebla de Sanabria to Requejo

Ok, last section of this camino and this was another spring walk. Different seasons have their own feel but I find walking in Spring the best. There is something about being at the start of the season which is special - most experienced walkers prefer Autumn but I love the freshness.

Flew to Madrid and got the train up to Puebla. By the time of arrival it was too late to walk so stayed in Puebla overnight. The next day was to be a short day anyway. In the morning a friendly cab driver took me to the rather special Lago de Sanabria. This is a major tourist destination - a lake surrounded by high mountains.

A walk along the lake edge and then a coffee made a super morning. Also interesting to see a place that had had a recent disaster. In 1959, the dam across the Tera upstream failed; the wall of water that hit the village killed 200 out of a population of 500. The church (right) was cut in two.

Well worth a detour - it's not really on the camino route, hence taking out a half day and spending a couple of taxi fares. (Taxis in Spain are really good value).

So back to Puebla and a quick 12km in the afternoon to the albergue in Requejo. The only point of interest en route is the Iglesia deSantiago de Terroso . The inside is apparently interesting but I missed the 2 hours per year that the place is open.

The albergue was nice and clean and I managed to get a private room, albeit a "room" which was actually a corner of the main room cut out. Met an interesting monk - a buddhist - who was walking with one of those European blokes with an indeterminate European accent, so indeterminate that you can't really place it.
