Day 28 Granja de Moreruela to Tabara

A quick cab ride back from Benevente and time to head into the hills. It was remarkable how quickly the landscape changed. After a few days of quite monotonous slogging across the plain, suddenly one is heading towards hills in the distance.

The camino crosses the river Esla which is dammed near this bridge. The bridge is called the Quintos Bridge which implies there were four here before. I guess that's why this one looks pretty strong... Sixth Bridge, Seventh Bridge, Nineteenth Bridge and people start to lose faith in the bridge builders.

After the bridge the way rather petered out so the GPS signal was the only sensible guide to get out of the valley.

The little town of Tabara was the destination. One walks into town past the church of St Mary of Tabara. It is described as a 12th century jewel of the Spanish romanesque period, at one time boasting a scriptorium. I quite fancied getting into look but... there was a 'y' in the day of the week so it was closed. Very attractive on the outside still. I will have to time my next VdlP so I can get in.

Dinner was in the main square, Bar Palacio where the staff seemed a little surprised to see any customers. Very few pilgrims now on the way.
