A reasonably short day today as Zamora, from the guidebook description, seemed worth a good look round. It's basically an open air Romanesque museum and I love a good Romanesque arch or doorway.

The approach to Zamora was dramatic if you like open countryside.

By contrast, arriving into Zamora is walking into a picture postcard.

Accommodation was at the parador which is an ex-pace from the Renaissance period. The staff were fairly unfriendly though - no idea why, perhaps I didn't look like a true Romanesque fan and they save the smiles for those who truly appreciate such architecture. Anyway the town was super. There's a cathedral and a castle, both of which are worth seeing plus more Romanesque churches than you could possibly visit in a day.

Slightly pointed arches in the cathedral, such a disappointment....:-)

A terrific place to visit. Note to self - when walking the VDLP next time, make sure this place gets a rest day.
