Leaving the house behind, headed off on a chilly morning. The light was awesome with the mist rising off the fields.
This is a 28km day with zero opportunity to buy any food or drink so made sure to have a picnic (with wine, of course) for the half-way point.
The rough half way point is the stunning Pico de Duena, a mountain a bit under 1200m high. Unfortunately some idiot has shoved a lot of wind turbines on the top but I was pleased to see that at the peak was the symbol of something that will exist long after these bird-killing, net carbon-creating monuments to stupidity have rotted away.
The picnic at the top of the mountain was perfect.
What was particularly interesting was the sheer number of kites living up there. I've never seen more than a pair of kites before so I had to look up the collective noun. Apparently it could be a kettle, a husk, a soar, a wake...whatever, when you see several hundred gathering for their winter roost, it's an impressive site.
Coming off the mountain, there is a 13km walk to San Pedro. It's glorious, peaceful walk, and again I gave thanks for such wonderful weather in November.
Dinner was a fun affair with other pilgrims at the quite smart hotel in San Pedro. The temperature was definitely starting to cool though - the restaurant was across a courtyard from the rooms and that 30 foot distance was pretty chilly.
