Today, it was time to head inland. The reason is that there is a river opening further up the coast and no way of crossing the estuary so one has to head inland. Rather nice walk all the same. First one climbs up into a range of hills and through a succession of small villages. Coffee was at a place called Mar which had a super little church dedicated to St Michael and a splendid statue.
Then the climb continued and one came to a useful signpost.
And a rather nice display - blue shoe heading to Fatima, yellow shoe heading to Santiago.
Then one cuts into some woods to the bridge of San Sebastien. Somewhat lacking in maintenance....
I made it across with the help of the walking poles. The worst part was being asked if I needed help by four German students heading in the opposite direction who obviously thought I needed it.
Into Viana, a nice town but surprisingly difficult to find somewhere to eat. Eventually settled on the Zip Zip bar which sounded dreadful but was ok. The Castello overlooking the town looked rather smart but I didn't fancy the climb up to see it. The hotel on the sea front - the Margarida - was notable for having a friendly receptionist who could make good jokes in English.
