The Via de la Plata is named after the Roman road that ran up the western side of Spain, to the east of the mountains that mark the Portuguese border. The route from Sevilla is just over 1000km...so a bit more than I could do without taking too much time off work in one go. So it took 5 separate trips to get a Compostela over the period November 2015 to May 2019.
Every long journey starts with a single step.

This was my rucksack on the 24th November 2015. Poles, shell and a French flag. Just felt right that after the Bataclan massacre it was right to show some support for my fellow grieving Europeans in the face of such evil horror.
Up to Castilblanco from Sevilla. A relatively easy 20km in beautiful weather. The hotel, the unimaginatively named Hotel Castillo Blanco, was pretty well empty. So down to town for a robust meal at La Venta. Perfectly edible but the house red was a bit rough. Probably why it was served directly from the fridge to ensure it didn't smell too bad.
