It’s arrived. Today we get into Santiago. True I’ve left a large percentage of my feet back on e trail but enough of me is going to arrive at the pilgrims office for the Compostela.
And I don’t know which emotion is going to win out. Relief and triumph for having made it; or sadness that the journey is coming to an end. I will have to have a drink and let the emotions work it out themselves.
Inevitably, on arrival at the Pilgrim Office, who was ahead of us but Karin and Thomas. Doing the whole German "towels on the deckchairs" stereotype, they had set off in the dark to make sure they arrived on time. So compostelas were duly collected from the Pilgrim Office (name in Latin!) and rucksacks dropped off at the parador.
Then to mass. And in that packed cathedral we watched the botafumeiro swing and I knew which emotion had won.
